Thanks to the iniative of Community Partners for Affordable Housing’s intern, Sara White, over 50 children trick or treated in style this Halloween. They also collected plenty of accessories that the kids had a great time digging through and creating some pretty cool costumes. All of the kids and families were very appreciative and they all had a lot of fun distributing their collection. Check out the pictures! The CPAH is continuing their drive after Halloween to get a head start on next year. Collection dates and locations are listed below.

Friday, November4th between 10-2 pm at TVF&R Fire Station #67 13810 SWFarmington in Beaverton

On October 7, 2011, Free Costumes for Kids Vice President, Chris McCarthy, visited the Sunrise Park Elementary School Samaritan Club meeting. An enthusiastic group of 30 fourth and fifth graders decorated and stuffed Halloween treat bags for our October 15th distribution at the Migrant Education Open House. The costumes they collected put smiles on a lot of faces and iniated change through the goals the children set for themselves. Many thanks to Samaritan Club chairpersons, Lisa Eisenberg and Laura Waldorf Reiss for all their hard work .Samaritan

Each child that receives a costume from Free Costumes for Kids is asked to set a goal for themselves. Our hope is to set off a chain reaction of positive change. By donating a costume to our organization, not only will smiles be created, but change will be iniated.

The children who received costumes at the Migrant Education Open House at Lantana Elementary School on October 15th, 2011 wrote a goal for themselves before they received their costumes. Here are their goals.

Eineuto – I will face my fears.

Maisel - I will do my best.

David - I will tell people how I feel.

Dante - I will learn to write my name.

Maria - I will become an artist.

Andrea - I will become a teacher.

Baltazen - I will become a firefighter.

Floridalma - I will do better in Math and work harder to understand it.

Visel - I will improve in school.

Yoana - I will face my fears.

Magali - I will do better in Math.

Victor - I will join the Army.

Jennifer - I will get good grades.

Elda - I will become a princess.

Victer - I will help my Mom without her asking .

Kevin - I will improve in school.

Edelso - I will get along with my sisters.

Jose - I will face my fears.

Elizabeth - I will share a smile.

David P. - My goal is to face my fears.

Rodas - I promise to get along with my brother.

Jose - I will do my best.

Arelis - I will do my best at all times.

Dajany - I will learn to write my name.

Mia - I will do better in school.

Elizabeth - I will do my best.

Fidel - I will get better grades.

Gaby - I will learn my ABC’s.

Patricio - I will read for 30 minutes every day.

Estefani - I promise to face my fears.

Fabiola - I will get a higher GPA.

Brian - I will learn to write my name.

Mateo - I will always do my best.

Maria - I will learn my numbers to 100.

Noelia - I will be more careful.

Evelia - I want to cook better.

Noreydy - I will become an accountant.

Evelia – I will improve in school.

Iran - I will do well in school

Estefani - I will face my fears.

Joella - I will improve in the arts.

Jahayra - I will become a vet.

The generosity of mankind never fails to amaze me. Sandra Cancel of Franklin Templeton Investments in Fort Lauderdale, Florida collected 50 costumes from colleagues at her office for Free Costumes for Kids and delivered them to our collection site in Parkland. Thank you so much for thinking of our kids. Together we are changing lives, one costume at a time.

Free Costumes for Kids Distributes Over 100 Costumes to Kids at Migrant Education Event

If you had wandered into the cafeteria at Lantana Elementary School on Saturday, October 15th, 2011, you would have thought Halloween had come early. The room was filled with witches, zombies, devils, and princesses with smiles that even their masks couldn’t hide. Thanks to Free Costumes for Kids, a 3 year old local, non profit organization, over one hundred children attending the affair organized by the Migrant Education Department of the Palm Beach County School Board received a new or gently used Halloween costume. Because the organzation’s motto is, “Changing lives, one costume at a time,” each child or parent was asked to set a goal for themselves and to recycle their costume to a friend, relative or neighbor. Then they got their picture taken for our website so that those who have donated costumes can see the smiles created by their generous gift. Christina Pinder and her staff organized this wonderful event that provided community resources, parent education, activities for the kids, and lunch for the Migrant Community. Free Costumes for Kids was honored to be a part of it.

We would like to thank our volunteers, who worked together like a well oiled machine. Our interpreters were Vicky Kestler and Luke and Silvana Lago. Sign in was handled by Jazmine Hatcher and Goal writers were Kenya Swint and Susan Sisley -Green, Mariana Sisley-Green, and Dante. Costume fitters were Christina Kestler, Elizabeth Mateo, Quinese Moody and Keontae Swint . Photography assistants were Deandre and Jamon. And our photographer was Shanteria Short. The costumes for this event were donated by the Samaritan Club of Sunrise Park Elementary and the City of Parkland.

If you are thinking about donating costumes to Free Costumes for Kids, we are still collecting for our next big distribution at The Boys and Girls Club of Delray Beach. All sizes are accepted but we are especially in need of large sizes, even adult large XXL, and XXXL Adult sizes. Children come in all sizes.
