Free Costumes for Kids Distributes Over 100 Costumes to Kids at Migrant Education Event
If you had wandered into the cafeteria at Lantana Elementary School on Saturday, October 15th, 2011, you would have thought Halloween had come early. The room was filled with witches, zombies, devils, and princesses with smiles that even their masks couldn’t hide. Thanks to Free Costumes for Kids, a 3 year old local, non profit organization, over one hundred children attending the affair organized by the Migrant Education Department of the Palm Beach County School Board received a new or gently used Halloween costume. Because the organzation’s motto is, “Changing lives, one costume at a time,” each child or parent was asked to set a goal for themselves and to recycle their costume to a friend, relative or neighbor. Then they got their picture taken for our website so that those who have donated costumes can see the smiles created by their generous gift. Christina Pinder and her staff organized this wonderful event that provided community resources, parent education, activities for the kids, and lunch for the Migrant Community. Free Costumes for Kids was honored to be a part of it.
We would like to thank our volunteers, who worked together like a well oiled machine. Our interpreters were Vicky Kestler and Luke and Silvana Lago. Sign in was handled by Jazmine Hatcher and Goal writers were Kenya Swint and Susan Sisley -Green, Mariana Sisley-Green, and Dante. Costume fitters were Christina Kestler, Elizabeth Mateo, Quinese Moody and Keontae Swint . Photography assistants were Deandre and Jamon. And our photographer was Shanteria Short. The costumes for this event were donated by the Samaritan Club of Sunrise Park Elementary and the City of Parkland.
If you are thinking about donating costumes to Free Costumes for Kids, we are still collecting for our next big distribution at The Boys and Girls Club of Delray Beach. All sizes are accepted but we are especially in need of large sizes, even adult large XXL, and XXXL Adult sizes. Children come in all sizes.
